A friend of mine needs some help with some law enforcement issues for her novel and I thought since you were all so helpful when I was doing research, I'd ask!

This is not your typical romance novel!  In this one, the hero is the victim of domestic violence.  The hero is shot by his wife at his friend's house.  What I need to know is what happens next.

The friend, Wayne, calls 9-1-1 and an ambulance come to the scene.  Do the police come, too?  Would they talk to Wayne there? Take him to the police department?  What about the hero's kids, sleeping inside?

If the shooting took place outside, on the sidewalk or in the driveway, would the police go inside the house?

The wife, Audrey, is wigged out on drugs or alcohol when she does the shooting and drives away.  She's then involved in a fatal accident within an hour or so of the shooting.  What do the cops do? Come and tell the hero she's dead, while he's in the hospital?  What if he's in surgery, do they wait and tell him when he comes out of the recovery room?

Also, another friend is writing about an undercover sting.  She is looking for signals/codes officers may use while working undercover!

Thank you so much for your help!
Natalee
