I dont know the back story on this but the suspect clearly has limited experience with auto weapons. the gun clearly jams so the officer should not had got shot. Thank goodness for the bystanders

Tough situation to make a call on. The suspect fumbled with the weapon, and I think that gave the officer just enough time to get out of the car and fire...At least that is what I saw. |

Looks like the hispanic male suspect did not know how to take the safety off of his HI-Point carbine. Thank GOD. What was the final outcome of this shotout?

This is a tough one to call...but the suspect was out of the vehicle with a gun pointed at the officer while he was still giving his final location...i don't think he had his eye on the suspect vehicle because he did not even sound alarmed when the suspect pointed the gun at him the first time before it jammed. I hope and pray he is ok

LADYBLULINE, I too hope he is ok,but you can hear some movement at the last of the officers transmission, like he is triying to get out of his unit to engage the suspect but didnt get the chance. It was sure does look like a Hi- Point because the safety on a Hi-Point is on the left hand side of the gun, were we see the suspect SCUMBAG fumbling with it. Does anybody know if the officer is OK and where did this happen?

Police looking for 'known suspect'June 25, 2008 - 11:50 PM
HARLINGEN - A Harlingen police officer was in fair condition at Valley Baptist Medical Center this morning after being shot multiple times during a routine traffic stop Wednesday night, officials said. Officer Carlos Diaz, a four-year veteran with the Harlingen Police Department, was out of surgery by 1:15 a.m. today and was in the intensive care unit at VBMC, police spokesman David Osborne said. Diaz had been listed in critical condition before being taken in for surgery, Osborne said Wednesday night. A VBMC nurse supervisor said Diaz was listed in fair condition this morning. "We know maybe more are planned in the near future, but the good news is that he pulled through the first surgery," Osborne said early this morning It was not clear where the officer had been shot. The shooting occurred at the intersection of F Street and West Buchanan Avenue about 8:40 p.m., Osborne said. That is the same intersection where a deadly melee occurred last month. "This was basically an ambush," Osborne said. "The suspect opened fire on the officer while he was still seated" in his patrol car. "It appears the suspect was aiming right at the officer." "We're still looking for this guy," Osborne said. "When the suspect is apprehended, he will be facing attempted capital murder charges." A man who lives on Lincoln Avenue about a block away from where the shooting occurred said he was in his back yard and heard about six gunshots about 8:45 p.m. Ambush?
