News 2 also made calls and it seems this may just be a rumor!  We talked to the CEO of The Pantry which has gas stations in 11 states. The Pantry CEO, Pete Sodini, told us they’re not planning on raising gas prices.  They are asking customers to not buy more than 10 gallons of gas at this time.

Blame it on Hurricane Ike!  Ike is expected to hit the Gulf Coast tomorrow and oil production platforms were evacuated.  Ike is expected to become at least a Category 3 storm with winds upward of 111 mph before it comes ashore.

Let us know if you see $5.00 gas in the lowcountry.

Gas Hikes, Limits Due to Hurricane Ike

posted 4:16 pm Thu September 11, 2008 - Lowcountry from ABC News 4 -

Gas stations are limiting fill ups to ten gallons and fears that gas prices will soar Thursday evening are confirmed.

Several Lowcountry gas stations, including the BP on Savannah Highway, have signs on each pump limiting gas fill ups to ten gallons. This in an effort to conserve the gas supply as fears of Hurricane Ike smashing ashore in Texas and squandering a domestic source of gasoline is now just a day away, according the the National Hurricane Center.

Right now the latest models show Ike hitting between San Antonio and Houston, where the nations largest refineries are located, and the storm is expected to hit as a category three late Friday evening.

The BP gas station in West Ashley will also hike the price of gas from $3.52 to $5.00 a gallon at 4 p.m.

AAA Carolina's spokesperson, Lori Jo Simmons says "the situation is declining rapidly."

Click here to report gas stations that have hiked the price of gas or are rationing the supply.  You can also send us pictures.  We will post a list for viewers.

Reporter Shawn Smetana will also have the latest on this story in the 6 p.m. news.
